This Timing Chain Kit offers a pretty complete assortment of parts when replacing the timing chain is due. Along with the necessary gaskets, it includes a nice oil pump and water pump. The front aluminum cover is very precisely built.I was a little skeptical with the all plastic chain guides and the light feel of the chain, and I can only assume they would have performed a sufficient job. However, it our haste to race against time, we suspect the lower timing gear may have been installed inverted, causing a slight misalignment in the chain, which caused the chain to break several links. Luckily it didn't completely separate. No mater how many times you do something, there is still an option of error. So, I purchased a Toyota original gear and chain set that cost more than this complete kit. But now there is that peace of mind and also another cost of furthered education. This kit offers you the exclusive option of just replacing the front timing assembly. Sliding the front cover out from between the head and oil pan, then carefully inserting back into place. Considering you can retain the oil pan and head gaskets in good condition. In our case the gaskets didn't look worthy, so we pulled the head and oil pan and done it complete. This little 22R has a few thousands miles on it since and is clean as a showroom. Hopefully for another 289K miles? Something I don't want to do too often, but when it comes time, take your time and do it right.
