Innovative solutions Harvesting and milling Super low milling temps, with the oil never exceeding 23 degrees celsius Optimal harvest around the end of November, producing a complex and healthy olive oil Organic methods of growing olives, with no use of irrigation, pesticides or fertilizers Made only from the local Koroneiki variety Operations integrity e base our operations in three pillars. Organic cultivation, environmental sustainability and pursuit of absolute quality at all stages from cultivation up to final bottling/packaging, this irrespective of the costs involved. Within a framework of unaggressive operations, our olive groves are treated as a closed natural system, with minimum inputs and outputs, where most of the elements are recycled inside the olive grove, ensuring sustainability; this being the cornerstone of our operations. Family farm, mixing tradition and inovation A long history Our olive groves are situated in the village of Skala in the area of Messinia, renowned as one of the world’s best olive growing regions. Skala is built on the remains of the ancient town of Isthmos, meaning canal. eventually, the area became a fertile plain known as Makaria Terra, or translated into English, “Blessed Land”. A Family Tradition The majority of our olive trees were planted in the 1950’s by our grandparents, grandfather Konstantinos and grandmother Dimitra. Water was being carried by hands from wells, many times situated hundreds of meters far away from the plantations in order to plant and grow the trees during the first years of the olive trees’ lives. All cultivation care were performed manually with an axe, a saw and a hoe as well as with use of animals, horses, donkeys or cows. A family Tradition Harvesting is still done the old fashion way, where exceptional care is taken to preserve the flavors of the oil. After the olives have been removed from the tree, they are taken to the mill, where they are crushed in just a few hours of harvest. Optimal times Managing the art and technique of producing quality extra virgin olive oil requires the skilled hands of a longtime farmer. Achilles, has been managing the entire process, and his beautiful olive oil shows evidence of the care given to the trees and olives. Awarded over 35 times in the last several years, makaria Terra sets itself apart from the rest. Organic Farming Using natural means, such as letting the horses enjoy the grass amongst the trees, Makaria Terra keeps a clean and sustainable farming style. No harmful substances are used, and even irrigation is avoided.
NON-OXIDIZING BAG IN BOX- This revolutionary system is designed to keep all oxygen from coming in contact with the oil. Upon opening the bag, the oil within will remain fresh for as long as an oil sealed in a bottle will normally last. With an easy access pour spout, and handle on top, it is easily stored, handled and used. When compared to glass bottles, this is a significantly cheaper option without compromising on quality, and is easier to handle than a multitude of individual bottles.
PRODUCT OF GREECE - The olive groves are right next to Ancient Messinia, in the village of Skala, approx. 20km North of Kalamata. The land of Makaria Terra is a land full of history, culture and traditions of the ancient Greek heritage.family olive grove consists of around 2,500 trees of the renowned Koroneiki variety.
HARVEST 2023/24- Get the freshest oil possible with the 2023/24 harvest. The olives are handpicked from the trees at the best possible moment, and rushed to the mill, where the oil is extracted and then filtered to remove any sediment that does not belong in the oil. A more expensive way of milling, as it adds a step to the process, but it is important for keeping an oil stable, and balanced. Chemical results ensure quality with low acidity of just .16 at testing.
