Elvis Costello and the Imposters deliver a live performance at The Wiltern in Los Angeles in May 2011 where the audience members 'choose' the set by spinning a wheel containing a plethora of Elvis's songs. The concert includes a special guest appearance by The Bangles. Tracks include 'Watching the Detectives', 'I Want You', 'Every Day I Write the Book ' and '(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding'.
I don’t usually write many reviews, but in this case, it would be an injustice not to.If you are an EC fan, buy this now. You will love it.It’s every bit as enjoyable as any of his shows. Feels like the best seat in the house. Well filmed, and it’s EC as his best, every bit the showman. If you’re ever having a bad day, put this in and you will forget your troubles. I am transported to everything I love about his talent- story telling, and musical performance (and Steve Nieve and Thompson are also at their best, and very worth mentioning). He is a master of his art, and inspires me to master mine, even though in a different art field. His personality takes the stage, and I appreciate his kindness to his audience and utter lack of snobbishness. He is warm and likeable and the consummate gentleman. He shines most when he indulges himself in displaying his most recently composed favorite songs, but he does this solely to entertain, without a trace of ego. It’s just like he’s letting his soul out for us (and sometimes his intellect).I only hope I have access to a DVD player in 30 years, because I’m sure I’ll want to see this again many times as I grow old. It’s that good. It makes my heart happy.I highly recommend it if you appreciate Costello’s work. It’s worth every penny and more.
