I am in general not a big fan of handbooks. I call them "tourist guides". Having said that, I am pleased to admit that I can definitely make an exception for this tome edited (not written!) by Klaus and Rainer. (Full disclosure: I know them both.) The chapters are written by recognized experts (some of them I know personally) and contain useful information that can be used by practitioners and researchers. As an example, I needed a quick primer on VFDs (I am not an electrical engineer) in relation to something that I was working on and the coverage in Chapter 7 fit the bill very nicely. The goal is not to learn everything on one particular subject - this is impossible. (I know because I wrote a tome myself on gas turbines recently.) However, even in a two paragraph section on recip engines, I was able to find out very good information written in such a way that made me rethink of what I already knew under a different light (e.g., Power, Torque, and Speed on p. 307). Overall, this is a good addition to any power/process plant engineer's library. I highly recommend it.
