Self-Feed Bits provide faster boring of clean, accurate holes in wood for pipe, conduit and tubing. These bits are designed with precise, hardened cutting edges that hold up cut after cut. An aggressive self-feed lead screw helps draw the bit into the wood without applying pressure. The lead screws are machine ground and therefore burr-free. In addition, the inside cutting plane ensures clean, smooth holes for consistent and even work. Easy removal from the hole is accomplished because the sides of the self-feed bit are tapered. The bits have a 5 1/4" overall length. Teeth can be sharpened with a file, with best results from a diamond grit file. All shanks are 1/2" diameter with 6 fully machined flats that can be tightly gripped by the chuck, which eliminates wobble while drilling. Use only with 1/2" heavy-duty angle drills, specifically designed for self-feed bits. Reed Manufacturing has been producing fine tools for worldwide professional trades since its founding, in 1896, by Carl Reed. Reed celebrates its 118th year of business in 2014. From the company's beginning, Reed associates have invented tools that continually become industry standards, including the Quick Release Tubing Cutter, various tools for plastic pipe, vises, plus Hinged Cutters and Rotary cutters for large diameter pipe.
